Together for Umi
Umi — Arabic for “my mother” — is more than a brand; it’s a lifeline. Every embroidered scarf, pouch, bandana, and handmade keepsake is crafted by vulnerable mothers across the MENA region. With every purchase, you uplift a woman’s livelihood, dignity, and future. Your choice creates change.
An Interview with Together for Umi
Where do you usually draw inspiration from?
We draw inspiration from the women themselves — their stories, their creativity, their resilience, and the heritage they carry. We’re also inspired by Arabic culture, thoughtful minimalism, meaningful gifting, and the beauty of handmade work. Each product celebrates the identity of our community and the hands that made it.
What’s one thing you wish people knew about your work?
We wish people knew how much heart, time, and skill go into every single piece. Behind every candle, embroidered bow, frame, kaftan, or Ramadan meal is a mother working from her home or community center, balancing her family’s needs while creating something meaningful. Your support doesn’t just “buy a product” — it creates confidence, provides income, and builds a pathway toward independence.
What does your brand aim to bring to your community or customers?
Umi exists to uplift, empower, and celebrate mothers in underserved communities. Through dignified income opportunities, skill-building, and emotional support, we help women step into confidence and financial independence—and we bring customers beautiful, handmade products with real purpose behind them. Every purchase directly supports a mother, her family, and her journey toward stability and self-value.
What values guide the way you create and grow?
We are grounded in dignity, authenticity, craftsmanship, and community. We believe in slow, ethical production, honest storytelling, and creating meaningful impact — not just products. Our Arabic-English identity ensures inclusivity and cultural connection, while transparency and ethical work are at the heart of everything we do.
What part of your process do you love the most?
The part we cherish most is witnessing the transformation of the mothers we work with — the moment a woman sees her finished product, receives her income, or shares how this work has changed her home and her confidence. Those stories fuel every collection, every collaboration, and every long workday.
