An Interview with Precious Plastic Amman
Was there a specific moment or realization that sparked this brand idea?
It was during the pandemic. I had seen videos about Precious Plastic online, but I never had the time to reach out to them. After the world shut down, we had the time, so we reached out, and by the time the world started to open up again, we had established our first workspace in Jordan.
Where do you draw inspiration for shapes, colors, and forms of the recycled products?
From local designers and producers, as well as the global Precious Plastic community, and everyone and everywhere else, really. The truth is, almost anything you make from plastic or wood, you can also make from recycled plastic waste. If you have the right tools, you can use recycled plastic waste to make almost anything.
What message do you want your products to send about sustainability?
That there is always another way to do something, to do it better. Better for people and better for the planet. Our choices matter. Conscious consumerism is not an ideal; it is a necessity. You can make good-quality, good-looking, sustainable products.
Have you noticed a shift in how people perceive recycled products?
We have started to see a small but positive shift in perception towards sustainable products, but still, the market undervalues recycled goods, despite their durability, quality, sustainability, and artistic value.
What’s the most meaningful feedback you’ve received from a customer?
Almost all our customers have the same initial reaction, which is that they are amazed by the thought of our products once being someone else's trash. That transformation from waste to wonder has changed their behavior, the choices they make when they purchase or consume anything.
