An Interview with Knotted
How did your journey with crochet and design begin?
I always assumed anything made with yarn was difficult, probably because everything my grandmother created looked so magical. For a long time, I thought I could never do the same. One day, that thought suddenly felt so childish, and I decided to give knitting a try, making a scarf for a friend. That’s when I discovered a hobby I truly loved.
After I started playing with yarn, a friend encouraged me to try crochet as well and taught me the basics. Just like with knitting, I continued learning through YouTube. When I began making items, especially with T-shirt yarn, and sharing them on my personal Instagram, many followers asked if I took orders. Accordingly, I decided to turn my hobby into a business. That’s how Knotted was born!
How long does it typically take to make a bag, from start to finish?
Crocheting a small bag alone takes around two hours, but the full process is much more than that. It includes searching for the exact color or colors the customer wants, crocheting, finishing the piece neatly, and packaging it with care. Generally, I would say a product needs approximately 5 hours to make.
Where do you draw inspiration for colors, patterns, and shapes?
I get inspired by almost everything around me, nature, furniture, outfits, and sometimes even the mood or vibe of a specific event. Colors and textures have a way of speaking to me.
What’s the best feedback you’ve ever received from a customer?
I absolutely love it when customers tell me that my work is perfectly done and that it looks even better in real life than in the photos.
What’s one thing you wish people knew about your work?
I wish people knew how much focus and care go into every piece I make. Handmade items are special; they’re not like mass-produced products that get forgotten once a trend fades. Each piece carries time, effort, and love.
